Dear Parent and/or Guardian,

Physical education is an instrumental part of the total school curriculum which uniquely focuses on the physical development of the child, while also addressing the intellectual and social/emotional needs of the child. We will be instructing your child this year in physical education/health. Our goal is to present an enriching, challenging, and motivating curriculum to students of all fitness levels and abilities. The end goal is for students to develop their capacity to make well-informed choices that will benefit them for a lifetime.

This curriculum is highly influenced by the SPARK seminar in San Diego to deliver the nationally acclaimed SPARK physical education curriculum. This curriculum employs highly researched, best practices, that encourage the highest levels of student engagement, and maximizing time in activity. The SPARK curriculum truly reaches all students at all ability levels. We have seen it work firsthand over the last nine years.

Combined with an excellent curriculum, we believe it is imperative to create a classroom environment where all students feel safe and respected while in physical education. Teaching Personal and Social Responsibility through Sport (TPSR) is a big influence in fostering a safe environment in our classes. This model necessitates that student leadership, self-reflection, and sportsmanship are tangibly embedded in the curriculum.

Students at Disney are provided a well rounded curriculum: physical education to ensure they can make well-informed choices by the time they leave for high school. Each hyperlink below provides the content standards of what students should know and be able to do. They also highlight the developmentally appropriate benchmarks we use to measure student achievement and growth.
